My co-worker and Buddy painted this for me! I absolutely love it! I am going to the framing shop with it tomorrow! I can't wait to hang it in my living room! Now in exchange for talents, I need to work on my photography and capture her more things to paint! She is always asking for pictures and ideas to paint! Maybe someday I'll have a photograph that is reproduced in oil and canvas!

Little cousin is giving big cousin the sporting news for Sunday. Christopher in the back ground makes a comment that Clutterbuck isn't any good which little cousin defends his honor politely and says something about he smacks. Uncle John and I took it as Christopher was talking smack. Which we got clarification that it was smack on the ice and not Christopher doesn't know smack!! Which if little cousin understood that smack I'm sure he'd tell Big cousin he doesn't know smack!!

The little girls are still warming up to this cousin of theirs. Hard to relate to him as a cousin when he's old like a Daddy!!

Tis the season again! We headed over to Princeton to celebrate Christmas with the Reed's. We potluck it and gather around and visit. Marilyn and I made lefse today. She had the little potato balls all set for our afternoon roll out. I was the roller and she dusted and turned the Lefse. A Saturday Drive

Nestled below the church is the cemetery that my Grandparents were laid to rest. I have looked at the hillside knowing it was "over there" for that is my only memory. Dad was reminiscing his growing up places. He said he wanted to see the area one more time. Today we drove the back gravel road slowly. The colors and the country was beautiful. Passing his farm home slowly I heard tales of Uncle Bob driving his old Model A into the creek. Pointing out the shed that still stands that Dad and Uncle Bob built and the home that is tucked under big white pines. If only I could see his memories.

We took the loop around the Church he grew up in. He shared that he had his first job helping a crew put up the Swedish bell tower. He was the brick layers attendent. He showed me where his Dad and Mom were buried. We drove to the top of the hill and looked out over the land. It was a wonderful drive. I love to hear Dad tell the old stories.

KroppKakor at Spring Lake Church

A couple cute swedish girls meet every year on these church steps every fall for Kropp Kakor! Around our area the Scandanavians and Germans pull out their best recipes and put on a feast at our home town churches. People far and wide come for these feasts for all good reasons! Here at Spring Lake (Swedish! don't ya know) Lutheran, the ladies have made these potato dumplings every fall for 60 plus years and people actually pay to eat them!!

There was a story being passed around the church for us to read and it told that in 1937 the Luther League wanted to help contribute to the remodeling of the church and the League broke into two groups to see who could come up with great ideas and raise the most money.
The groups named themselves, "The Eastern Strivers" and the Plucky West". Each side sponsored many socials with an admission price. Fun times and good fellowship and creative meetings lead up to a Mom's suggestion of a Kropp Kakor dinner and the Leaguers loved the idea!! And here I was tonight!!! Carrying on the old tradition of eating lead balls!! Buying cranberry orange relish at the bake sale and of course taking pictures! A Swedish girl exclaimed, Uff Da! Most people do, I ignore them! And wouldn't you know it... I saw some folks from way out west of Cambridge!! Nearly Princeton for Luther's sake!

Isn’t She the cutest German? (girl on our right) She and her friends and brothers went to Munchen for Oktoberfest! Janis sent me photos and I asked if I could blog them. Janis said it is soooo crowded there and you can only buy one stein of beer for 9 Euros. I might have that wrong.
I think the young boys should keep their country in true dress and ditch the western wear and put on some lederhose(tragen) like Anna's boyfriend!

The Quilt

This quilt has been in the making for 10 years? Honestly! I cut down men's shirts and slacks and sewed strips together. These strips stored for 6 years before I gave up! I was realizing I needed to move on from projects bigger then my ability! This was one of them. I dumped off the goods onto a friend. This friend returned the top finished and said it belonged to me!! I was excited to finish this quilt...somehow. It has taken me 2 more years to have it finished!
The finish work was done by a wonderful lady! She's gifted and full of love! I mention this because quilts are made with love by whomever stitches them together. This beautiful lady shared how the quilt came together for her. Some trials and some friends to help. It was "framed" onto straight back kitchen chairs just like the olden days. She tied my quilt, stitched the back and binding. All done in a couple weeks time. When I picked up my quilt tonight I was met with a friends welcome and we chatted our hearts out! She was plainly speaking with a heart full of love! I hope I gave her the impression that this quilt is all I had planned it would be and because of her spirit today it was received with love. I hardly know this lady but after our visit I felt as though we have been friends! Quilts are given to those who are much loved. When someone receives a quilt there is always a breath caught and wrapped around their heart. I will be reminded daily of the greatest gift this quilt represents.

When Christopher has worked out of town we get to have Bailey. She is the smartest and very loving and obediant dog. I love her! However, when Christopher walks through that door she literally is all over him! Tonight her master came home. She pushed herself against Christopher's legs and spun around and around and made this sound. Christopher couldn't take her home tonight and now she lays making that sound again. Ears bent down, eyes beholding the look of a broken heart... and drool!! Slobber drool!! I am thinking this dog has eaten already. She keeps whining. I take her out to potty. No potty. She comes back in and whines somemore. Wow she really misses Christopher! Sitting on her haunches looking at me around the corner. She has a big slinger!! Everytime I take her out she runs for her food dish. OH!! I get it!! When your upset EAT!!! I gave her a scoop of food and she's been happy ever since!!

From Canning to Rendering

My husband and son, Cory, have been picking apples all week! Last week they started juicing apples. This week I have been asked HOW TO make applesauce. Hmm I detect a project. Well, here comes the promised day to work together making sauce. John was so sick last 24 hours that I thought I was off the hook at least for today. Well, he woke up cured. I woke up crabby and not looking forward to canning all day. I honestly did say a prayer for my attitude and asked for help from "above". I wasn't feeling it and I went about it like a chore. Lucky for John he was able to retreat to the shop to peel apples. Lucky for me I was being transformed! FOR REAL!

Long story shorten, hubby kept on peeling apples and I kept putting by more and more apples. After I was done I took the scraps and peels out to the chicken coop and found my hubby picking more apples off of Christopher's tree. I walked up to the man and thanked him for all his work and kissed the man! He smiles and strangely enough I'm a happy girl. Thank you God!

The Bike Trail

Well, I guess I didn't quite get the visual effect I wanted for the bike trail blog entry. I should have had one of those helmet mounted cameras and video taped the trip! Ha! Oh well. But it's a quick, easy jaunt from Cambridge to Isanti. I wish there was so much more. I don't think it's safe to ride the county roads around here. I have had someone come up behind me on Co. Rd. 10 and honk and shortly there after a Jeep Liberty drove onto the shoulder where I was and that was a Uff Da moment. I don't know if it's a cell phone moment or just a taunt. Hard to tell when your back is to them and in a flash something happens and while gathering your whits you might beable to register what vehicle it is and what color. Yeah you cranberry colored Jeep Liberty on county road 10!! And the silver snazzy VW Jetta! (snarl)! I want your tax dollars to build me beautiful bike trails that wind through your forest, meadows and downtowns.

My biker friends said they have shorts in my size!! By gosh they do! I took them for a long test ride tonight. (I have big ideas!! ) Back to those later.
I doubled my bike route. I rode 15.8 miles in 1 hour and 42 minutes with three potty breaks!
While I was forging new trails my s.i.l. brought forth into this world a little one!! Betsy Irene!
I am thrilled to hear of her arrival!!
The holiday weekend flew by! I did some picture taking as you can see in previous posts. I did some shopping. I am finishing a quilt, shopping for a new bike, found some merino wool yarn to make socks and found some Pearl Izumi's (biker shorts and gloves). Went to an auction and later hubby and I went out to eat at Old Spaghetti which was another story in itself and then we took the train to the TWINS game. Whew...I need more time!
By the way my biker shorts are black!

John and I and Elise and Heather left Cambridge this morning at 6 a.m. arriving at Concordia by 9:30! We parked along side her new home and were instantly assisted in unloading and carrying her belongings to the fifth floor! WOW! The Cobber football guys were AWESOME! Welcoming and helpful and made the move happen in lightening speed!

First one in the room is like the early bird gets the worm!
Heather's cousin, Sam, kept the OO RAH RAH going! I think it was a good thing for Heather! Smiley Elise was there for her best friend!

We waited for Grant as he asked us to bring the essentials, HUNTING GEAR! I think he might hang his deer stand in his dorm room!

" How many girls fit in a dorm room closet?"

I was trying to get the girls to line up around Grant and Heather said NO WAY and Sam was grossed out and Elise is like OHHHH - oh k.
(Elise wanted the VW car we stood by!)

My Weekend

Heather came over to have supper with me and see the garage sale set up. I'm trying to hook her up with some great deals. We visited a little.
John and I will take her up to Concordia this weekend. Her Daddy is having a tough go of it and is in the hospital a few weeks. It's still an up hill climb for him and I know that I can count on you all to uplift Ev in your prayers.

Heidi and I filled up the garage and had a garage sale. We tried, but the shoppers were somewhere else. Slow, slow. However, the right people came along for a few of the things. We gave stuff away and we still managed to make some tuition/book money.

Auntie Karyn came for coffee and cake and see what kind of wares we had to sell! Auntie Karyn is special, fun and keeps the family ties strong. I love you!

I have to share this. During the sale this weekend, Heidi and I were asked two or three times if we were sisters!! I love it!!

Cambridge-Isanti has a new bike trail that just opened about a month ago! The Pharmacy girls met this evening to bike the trail. It's a wonderful trail and felt a little disappointed the ride was so short. Diane, on the far left, biked from home. I'm daring myself to try that out myself!

New adventures have opened up for myself since dusting off the bike. I started out last week trucking around the block [so to speak] logging in 6.2 miles. My first time around I thought I might be setting too big of a goal. I had no idea how far [ 2 miles as far as I knew] this little trip would go and how long. It took me 51 minutes and my bisquits weren't worth their fluff factor.
I took the challenge 3 times last week and pedalled 4 more this week. I have widdled off 16 minutes and have the gumption to set higher goals for next week. I have a couple of good months left before it snows right?

Between my place and Dad's

I have a very short walk to Dad's. When the bugs are few my walk is longer. There's a shaded path that has the most interesting mushrooms that pop up. A chocolaty looking one that grows in the oaks. White bowl shaped mushrooms and stink horns, they make me wonder what on earth ... Why God?

Dad has a little garden on the deck. We planted petunias and impatients in the pickled herring buckets he saved! I added in a couple of my baskets from last years flowers! The mound of flowers are beautiful! He also has green beans and tomatoes and peas!

My walk back home. It's a pretty stroll. I remembered the visitors that crossed this path. The boys who peddled their bikes to Grandma and Grandpa's place. I also reached back into my own memory and my Grandma's path to our home. She came through a winding path much deeper then ours. When she rounded the corner she would lift her hand and with a pointing finger shake her little hello! Into her sweater pocket she would reach and out came a pink or white peppermint candy! It's a pretty stroll.

We had a nice get together on Saturday with the Bergloff Family. It was our Christmas in July! No gifts, just time together with each other and of course our smorgasbord of great food. I recently acquired photos from Grant’s 2010 4H National Shooting Sports trip to Kerrville, Texas.

A friend recently asked why I hadn’t blogged the birthday boy. [I’m a loser] My other excuse was he declined an offer I made. He was spending his birthday evening with his girlfriend. So, I confess!! I let it all go by like it was any other day. I have no photos to share of his 19th birthday. I should have whooped it up online. I didn’t. I should have made him come home. I couldn’t. I should have done it another day. I still can.
He’s a wonderful son and he’ll always know it because we can’t say it enough!

The Clean Up

I had the easy job and I can't hardly say JOB. I raked all the little stuff into piles. I made maybe 10 piles. John, Christopher, Grant and Mike made this clean up look easy! Fast, efficient and hard working! I was touched by Mike's willingness to come and help. It's the first people who check in and make sure we are o.k. The LeTourneau's ! It's the neighbor across the street who offers to help in anyway. The Kolden's. Seeing a young man appear in your back yard with a chain saw that's Mike O'neil ! Many text messages from dear friends and family. The storm only took trees and power. No home damage for which we are so thankful! AND tonight the power came on! Thus the endless blogging!

Our storms turned out to be a big deal. We didn't realize how bad it was until I went up to check on my Dad...making sure he transitioned over to his other O2 source. Trees went down across our drive and all over Dad's yard. The power line was down behind our neighbors and they have trees all over. Wow! I didn't realize this was so significant. Yeah, it was really windy... rain poured sideways but... you know... I had the local radio station on... it was sunny and 91 according to them! So I took a ride down our county road and quickly realized there was a mess! Trees down everywhere!!!
I lit a bunch of candles and did just fine. I even put on in the bathtub and it illumined just like my night light.

Morning without coffee and a shower. Ok...I managed. I took a little trek to Osceola today for picture taking. I took "Stina" with me! She rocks when it comes to a photo session. I can only glean some how to's from her. I'm not trying to be like her... well ok... maybe I am. She was so much fun to watch her behind the lens. She's a Sweetheart!

I have neglected to write this gentlemans name down. He is a good friend of Andreas and has a the title of Master of Pigeons in Germany. I hope that Simon will read this blog and help fill in the information and correct my story. But this man has the cleanest coop. He also runs a garden store in Eppigen.

I think I can say that Andreas loves pigeons most! He will bring some to Dachau for a pigeon show and competition. This is a 3 hour drive one way. We will return to Dachau to pick them up and see how well they do in the competition. It is very interesting to see many different kinds of pigeons.

Andreas has these adorable rabbits! He breeds and raises these rabbits! These are kept at this co-op.

Andreas has a interest in birds. Ducks and pigeons. He also has rabbits! There is a little place down the road from his home where these animals are kept. There are several indivial coops or buildings for other birds and rabbits. They belong to different members of this "club".

This was a fun meal. Boiled potatoes on top in bowl keeping warm on the cooker. We each have individual fry pans and we place under the fryer. We cook eggs or melt cheese in them. I made a little omelette. There is little sausage patties frying slowly on the top of the cooker. It was a fun meal!

Andreas and champion pigeon

We are in Dachau for a pigeon show. Andreas drove his pigeons here on Wednesday and we returned on Sunday. It was small in comparison to the Minnesota State fair poultry barn but none the less. I saw many beautiful birds. I was very happy for Andreas!

Claudia and I packed away the ornaments and put the tree outside. This is the day before Epiphany. They call it The Three Holy Kings Day. Three kings will come to their home and ask for money for the poor and they also receive candy from this home. The three kings mark each homes door with chalk. I will blog this example.

Bop picked me up one morning for a drive. He showed me his gardens and hens. He wanted to share with me how to plant the winter salad. We couldn't understand each other but non the less a nice visit.
